Bhavnish Lathia Appointed as CTO of Kotak Mahindra Bank

Bhavnish Lathia

Kotak Mahindra Bank officially appointed Bhavnish Lathia as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in a key announcement dated March 22, 2025. Lathia came in after the resignation of Milind Nagnur, who occupied the roles of both CTO and Chief Operating Officer (COO) until February 15 for personal reasons. This appointment came at a critical time for the bank, which has been facing regulatory hurdles and technology shifts in banking.

With more than 27 years of rich experience in international technology and product management, Lathia takes on his new role. He joined Kotak Mahindra Bank in August 2022 as the Chief of Customer Experience and Head of Technology for Consumer Bank. His tenure has been marked by tremendous contributions towards the technology initiatives of the bank, such as building a robust team of engineers dedicated to advancing the bank’s technology agenda. Ashok Vaswani, CEO and Managing Director at Kotak Mahindra Bank welcomed Lathia to his team with full confidence in his leadership abilities, claiming his knowledge to be crucial in achieving the bank’s ambitious technology aspirations and setting industry standards.

Lathia’s appointment is part of Kotak’s overall plan to build its leadership team and fuel growth through innovation. The bank wants to be among the first to adopt the latest technology in the banking space, particularly after recently overcoming limitations imposed by the Reserve Bank of India on new credit card issuance and digital customer acquisition. These limitations were placed because of earlier IT infrastructure gaps but were removed after some improvement.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, an MS in Computer Science, and an MBA, Lathia’s career has seen significant roles at worldwide-recognized organizations like Amazon, where he played a key role in developing several core web services. His background positions him well to drive Kotak’s continuing digital transformation program, which includes launching innovative banking products and enhancing customer experiences across various channels.
