Former State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya is most likely to join Piramal’s financial services business after her cool-off period ended last week.

arundhati_bhattacharyaBhattacharya, 62, is reported to be working on a proposal to ally with billionaire Ajay Piramal to handle the latter’s expanding financial services business.

Later this month, a Piramal Enterprises board meeting is expected to be considering the decision of bringing Bhattacharya on board.

She retired from India’s largest public sector lender in October, completing her four-year-long stint in the bank.

As per the industry sources, Piramal is planning to hire top bankers in the wake of the RBI’s plan to ensure stricter regulations for Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs).
Though the names of several top shot bankers have been linked to Piramal lately, Bhattacharya seems to be on the top for taking up a role with the Mumbai-headquartered conglomerate.
