The General Insurance Council has appointed S. Prakash as Chief Executive Officer for Health Insurance Ecosystem and Strategic Partnerships, strengthening its leadership as India’s health insurance sector enters a phase of deeper collaboration, digital integration, and structural expansion.
In his new role, Prakash will focus on building a more cohesive health insurance ecosystem by working closely with insurers, healthcare providers, technology platforms, and regulators. His mandate includes driving industry wide initiatives aimed at improving coordination, standardisation, and innovation across health insurance and allied services.
The appointment comes at a time when India’s health insurance market is witnessing rapid growth, fuelled by rising awareness, expanding middle class demand, regulatory reforms, and increasing participation from private insurers and insurtech players. As product complexity and claim volumes increase, the need for stronger ecosystem level alignment has become critical.
Prakash brings extensive experience in the insurance and financial services space, with a background in building partnerships, operational frameworks, and sector wide programmes. His leadership is expected to support the Council’s efforts to streamline health insurance processes, promote technology adoption, and enable smoother collaboration between payers and healthcare service providers.
A key focus area under his leadership is likely to be the development of strategic partnerships across hospitals, TPAs, healthtech firms, and data platforms. These partnerships are increasingly central to improving claims efficiency, fraud prevention, customer experience, and affordability in health insurance.

The creation of a dedicated leadership role for health insurance ecosystem development signals the industry’s shift from company centric growth to platform driven and ecosystem oriented models. This reflects a broader trend where industry bodies are playing a more proactive role in shaping operating standards and long term sector strategy.
S. Prakash’s appointment underscores the General Insurance Council’s intent to accelerate collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and support sustainable growth of India’s health insurance market at a national scale.
