Sanjay Kaul has officially taken charge as the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, prominently known as GIFT City. He replaces Tapan Ray, who significantly contributed to GIFT City’s growth since 2019. Kaul, a 2001-batch IAS officer with the Kerala cadre, brings over twenty years of high-level administrative experience spanning public policy, infrastructure, finance, and technology. His previous assignments include serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, as well as holding key leadership roles in Gujarat, such as Managing Director of Gujarat Informatics Limited and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited.
Sanjay Kaul’s experience in both central and state governments aligns seamlessly with the multifaceted goals of GIFT City. Situated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, GIFT City is acknowledged as India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and operational smart city, designed to deliver world-class infrastructure and regulatory incentives to global and domestic business entities. Sectors such as banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI), fintech, IT services, and international education are especially favoured by GIFT City’s advantageous ecosystem, making it a magnet for progressive firms and institutional investors.
In his statement upon taking charge, Kaul expressed his commitment to strengthen GIFT City’s trajectory as a preeminent global financial and technology hub. His appointment has been formalized for a three-year tenure, underscoring the trust placed in his expertise to steer GIFT City through its upcoming phase of expansion and innovation.
