In a bid to upgrade its payment services, WhatsApp has launched the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) option in its new beta version.
The option has been launched to enable peer-to-peer (P2P) money transfer.
Reportedly, India is the first market to avail WhatsApp’s payment feature, built on the government-backed UPI. The update has been spotted in WhatsApp version ’2.17.295′.
“WhatsApp Payments: the immediate bank-to-bank transfer with UPI,” said WhatsApp Payments section for Android.
For using the WhatsApp Payments, every user would have to abide by the WhatsApp Payments and Bank Terms and Privacy Policy.
WhatsApp was reportedly negotiating with public section giant the State Bank of India for the launch of its payments system.WhatsApp is the second Facebook-owned platform to be attempting in-app payments.
