WhatsAppFacebook backed WhatApp’s payments segment will have to wait more as far as its nationwide launch is concerned.

It is reportedly facing delay as it waiting to get final approval from the central government.

The centre is holding the final go-ahead over the concerns about how users’ data will be stored and other issues.

Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed WhatsApp and its partner banks to present more details about the payments system, said ministry officials.

The ministry has asked the National Payments Corporation of India to confirm it via inspection that WhatsApp payments service is completely compliant with its requirements, they said.

“We are working closely with the Indian government, NPCI and multiple banks including our payment service providers to expand the feature to more people,” Anne Yeh, a WhatsApp spokeswoman.
