Fibe, the Pune-based digital lending platform formerly known as EarlySalary, has launched Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments on its app after the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) approved it as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP). The company announced the launch on 2 November 2026, opening the service to all users in India, not just its own borrowers.
The move, first reported by CNBC-TV18, takes Fibe beyond credit into everyday payments at a time when UPI volumes are at an all-time high. The network processed a record 25.47 billion UPI transactions in October 2026 and lenders increasingly see payments as a way to stay in daily contact with customers.
What Fibe UPI Offers Users
With the TPAP approval, the Fibe app now works as a full UPI payments app. According to the company, users can:
- Pay from bank accounts: link a savings or current account and make standard UPI payments
- Use RuPay credit cards on UPI: pay merchants with a linked RuPay credit card
- Tap eligible credit lines: use pre-approved credit lines linked to UPI as a source of funds
- Join without being a borrower: the service is open to consumers across India, including people who are not existing Fibe customers
Akshay Mehrotra, Managing Director and Group CEO of Fibe, said digital payments have become central to how consumers handle their everyday finances, and that the company’s focus is on giving users greater choice and control over how they pay.
From Lender to Payments App: Why the TPAP Licence Matters
A TPAP licence lets a non-bank company run a consumer-facing UPI app, while partner banks handle the underlying accounts and settlement. For a lender, that turns a periodic relationship into a daily one. Fibe had signalled the plan in May 2025, when Mehrotra told Mint the company had received preliminary approval from NPCI and would start with UPI as its first direct step into payments.
The launch adds payments to a product shelf that has steadily widened beyond personal loans. Fibe already offers credit cards, fixed deposits, loans against mutual funds, and financing for healthcare, education and rooftop solar installations. In 2023 it introduced a numberless RuPay credit card with Axis Bank, and in October 2026 it partnered Hygge Energy to digitise rooftop solar financing.
Credit on UPI Becomes the Battleground
Fibe’s emphasis on RuPay credit cards and credit lines places it squarely in the fastest-moving part of UPI. NPCI’s framework allows pre-sanctioned credit lines to be used as a funding source on UPI, so a lender running its own UPI app can put its credit products directly at the point of payment. Fibe joins a growing list of fintechs that have secured TPAP status, including credit card fintech ZET, which entered the UPI ecosystem in January 2026.
The timing is also notable for Fibe’s capital markets plans. Fibe, operated by Social Worth Technologies, has received SEBI’s final observations for a proposed IPO with a ₹750-crore fresh issue, as covered in our report on India’s ₹33,600-crore fintech IPO pipeline.
