Go Digit General Insurance Limited, the Pune-based digital full-stack non-life insurer, reported a net profit of ₹142 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 (Q2 FY27), down 31% from ₹207 crore a year earlier, according to results filed with the stock exchanges on 5 November 2026. A sharp rise in claims and flood losses weighed on earnings.

The quarter is the first in which Go Digit reports under Ind AS, as prescribed by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), with comparative figures restated on the same basis. A year ago the insurer had posted a 3.2-times jump in Go Digit’s Q2 profit under the older reporting format.

Go Digit Q2 FY27 results at a glance

  • Insurance revenue rose 1.7% to ₹2,720 crore from ₹2,675 crore.
  • Gross written premium fell 3.6% to ₹2,571 crore, and gross direct premium slipped 1.2% to ₹2,351 crore.
  • Profit after tax excluding mark-to-market impact stood at ₹208 crore, against ₹277 crore in Q2 FY26.
  • Assets under management grew 15.9% to ₹24,371 crore at book value.
  • The solvency ratio was 2.40x, well above the regulatory minimum of 1.50x.

Why Go Digit’s profit fell this quarter

The claims ratio climbed to 62.4% from 48.2% a year earlier, and the combined insurance service ratio rose to 99.8% from 94.9%. Excluding flood losses, the combined ratio was 97.4% and profit after tax (excluding mark-to-market) would have been ₹255 crore, the company said.

Go Digit described the period as one of “underwriting discipline sustained amid a soft market”. It said the dip in premium came mainly from health reinsurance inward and government health business that it chose not to renew because pricing was unattractive. Excluding those lines, gross written premium was flat.

What it means for India’s insurtech and motor insurance market

Motor insurance remains the core of Go Digit’s book, and pricing in the segment is under pressure. Regulators are also reshaping the market: IRDAI recently announced a four-layer motor insurance framework from 15 December, which could change how motor covers are built and sold.

Listed peers across insurance have reported mixed quarters. SBI Life’s Q2 FY27 profit rose 10.9%, while insurance marketplace operator PB Fintech’s Q2 FY27 earnings came against the backdrop of IRDAI commission caps.

For digital-first insurers, the quarter shows that technology-led distribution does not shield earnings from catastrophe losses and soft pricing. Choosing not to renew underpriced business protects margins over time but slows top-line growth in the near term.

Key takeaways
