The Income Tax Department has announced that it will automatically issue the PAN card to a taxpayer using Aadhaar number in order to file the returns.
As per the notification by the CBDT issued on August 30, “A person who furnishes Aadhaar, as they do not have Permanent Account Number (PAN), shall be deemed to have applied for allotment of PAN and they will not be required to apply or submit any more documents.”
The said rule has been put into effect from September 1.
“The tax department will obtain demographic information of an individual from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN), a ten-digit alphanumeric identifier issued by it,” the notification said.
The policy for the tax department is framed by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
