Private sector lender Karnataka Bank has appointed veteran banker Ms. Biji SS as its Whole-time Director (Executive Director), further strengthening the bank’s leadership team as it accelerates its transformation and growth strategy across retail, MSME, and branch banking businesses.
The appointment has received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is subject to shareholder approval. The leadership search and appointment process was facilitated by Venator Search Partners, a retained executive search firm specialising in BFSI leadership hiring.
Ms. Biji SS brings more than three decades of banking experience from South Indian Bank, where she steadily rose through the ranks from trainee officer to Chief General Manager. Known for her strong operational expertise and execution capabilities, she has led large-scale portfolios spanning branch banking, liabilities, MSME, retail assets, and third-party product distribution.
In her most recent role at South Indian Bank, she headed Branch Banking and Liabilities, Micro & Small Enterprises, and Third Party Products, managing a business portfolio worth nearly ₹1.68 lakh crore across approximately 950 branches nationwide. She also played a key role in strengthening corporate banking relationships while expanding co-lending and supply-chain financing verticals.
Commenting on the appointment, Deepraditya Datta, Founder of Venator Search Partners, stated that leadership transitions in modern banking require leaders who combine operational resilience, customer orientation, and transformation capabilities at scale. He described Ms. Biji SS as a leader with deep retail banking expertise, pan-India operational exposure, and institutional leadership experience.

Industry experts view the appointment as strategically important for Karnataka Bank as it sharpens focus on franchise expansion, liability growth, customer acquisition, and operational strengthening amid rising competition in the banking sector.
