Aadhaar linkage deadlines: All that you need to know

Aadhaar linkingAadhaar’s significance has been growing with each passing day and the major part of it is witnessed in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) industry. The latest update in this regard has come from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) pertaining to the linkage of Aadhaar across all insurance policies.

Aadhaar linkage is made mandatory for financial services like Public Provident Fund (PPF), National Savings Certificate (NSC), Krishi Vikas Patra (KVP), Permanent Account Number (PAN), Mutual Funds and Social Security Schemes, apart from bank accounts, mobile numbers and availing of numerous social security schemes like pension, scholarship and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connection.

Here is the quick checklist of Aadhaar linkage deadlines, you need to save:

PPF, NSC, KVP
Deadline: Dec 31, 2017

If you us the post office for your banking solutions; you need to sync your Aadhaar with all your new and existing saving certificates by December 31, 2017. Existing customers would have to submit a self-attested copy of their Aadhaar card along with an application for the linkage. The new consumers will also have to submit a self-attested copy of their Aadhaar card along with a copy of Pan card and a passport size picture at the time of opening of the savings account, NSC or KVP.

PAN
Deadline: Dec 31, 2017
Linking Aadhaar-PAN is a mandatory move for income tax returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2017-18. While earlier the deadline for completion of this mandate was August 31, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the last date to December 31, 2017. You can now link the PAN to Aadhaar by login to https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/UserLogin/LoginHome.html by entering PAN (User ID), password and your date of birth.

Click on ‘Profile Settings’ tab and select the last option ‘Link Aadhaar’. Enter details like name, date of birth and gender as per PAN records and also your Aadhaar number. Enter the captcha code and submit.

Mobile SIM
Deadline: February 2018

For linking your SIM card with Aadhaar visit a telecomm retailer with your Aadhaar card. Ask the retailer to link Aadhaar number with mobile number by filling up a re-verification form.The operator will send a verification code on the number which you wish to verify. Provide the verification code to the operator along with your fingerprints.

Bank account/Mutual Funds
Deadline: Dec 31, 2017
After Dec 31, 2017, your bank account will not be operational if it’s not linked with Aadhaar.
For completing the process, click on the link that says “Aadhaar Seeding Option”
Enter your Adhaar number. After completion, you will get an alert from your bank saying it is complete.

You can also link Aadhaar through SMS by sending UID (Space) Aadhaar number (Space) to the bank via SMS.

 You can also visit the branch physically along with a photocopy of your Aadhaar card. Provide the documents to the bank representative. After necessary verification, the account will be linked and customer would be informed via SMS.

Social security Schemes

Deadline: Dec 31, 2017

In a bid to verify the beneficiaries of social welfare schemes such as pension, scholarships etc, the government has declared Aadhaar linkage as a mandatory formality.
