Ratan Kumar Kesh was appointed executive director of private lender Bandhan Bank on Wednesday. The bank stated in a statement that the RBI approved Kesh as ED based on the board’s proposal.
The appointment will be effective on March 31, 2023, for a three-year term, subject to ratification by the bank’s shareholders. Kesh is also appointed as an additional director until the next Annual General Meeting, or for up to three months, whichever comes first.
Kesh holds a BE Mechanical degree from NIT, Durgapur, and has over 28 years of experience in a variety of businesses, including banking and finance, manufacturing, and the service industry. He is an Advanced Quality Engineer with the Quality Council of Indiana in the United States. He graduated from NMIMS in Mumbai with a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Management. GE and Asian Institute of Technology trained him in Six Sigma, and he worked as a Six Sigma Black Belt (BB) and Master Black Belt (MBB) in his early career.
Kesh has approximately three decades of exceptional expertise directing difficult operations including as transformation, automation, customer experience, quality improvement, and other related responsibilities. He is a hands-on leader who has continuously helped scale and address operational difficulties at major banking firms in India, including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, and Axis Bank.

Kesh was among the first in the Indian banking industry to lead the launch and effective implementation of HDFC Bank’s “Service CRM.” As a product head for premier banking, current accounts, and trade and FX business, he continued to drive fast expansion. He was also the Chief Customer Experience Officer at YES Bank, as well as the Head of Operation Risk.
Prior to entering the banking industry, he held different positions in the Aditya Birla Group and RPG Group in India and abroad in the Design Department, Project Management, Balanced Scorecard, Quality Assurance, Organization-wide Transformation Programs, and Technical Services.
