FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary inaugurated the new state-of-the-art headquarters building of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in New Delhi. The event was attended by Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava, CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Member (Compliance Management) Mohan Kumar Singh, DRI Director General Abhai Kumar Srivastav, senior officials from CBIC, other law enforcement agencies, and international delegates.

Finance Minister Sitharaman praised the DRI for its vital role in national security and safeguarding India’s economic frontiers, highlighting the record time in which the new building was completed. She called on DRI officers to imbue themselves with the spirit of ‘Reform, Perform, and Transform’ as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “Do not view enforcement and facilitation as opposing ends of the spectrum. Investigate holistically, keeping the big picture in focus, not merely chasing isolated infractions. Enforcement operations should be rooted not only in data but also in dharma.”

She emphasised the need to dismantle entire syndicates, enhance inter-agency cooperation, and improve coordination with international counterparts in the era of transnational economic crimes.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary commended the DRI’s swift incorporation of technology and data analytics, noting its respected position among law enforcement agencies globally. Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava appreciated the DRI’s role in creating a safe and secure economic environment as a cornerstone of India’s march towards Viksit Bharat.
