Centre extends Digidhan Mission till March 2020

Digital paymentsWith an objective to increase the acceptance of digital payments and infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has extended the operations of Digidhan mission till 2019-20 fiscal.

In its official communiqué, the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY), the implementing agency for the programme, has informed that “The operations of Digidhan Mission is hereby extended till March 31, 2020.”

In addition to extending the mission’s timeline, the ministry will also work on policy measures and interventions pertaining to design tax incentives for promotion of digital payments and mandatory sealing of cash payments.

“Another area of intervention would be devise mechanism for monitoring regional reach of best practices in terms of geo-tagging of digital payment transcarions,” said a senior government official.

 “The Digidhan mission will not only work on spreading literacy about online payments, but will also undertake promotion of best practices, processes, adoption and on-boarding systems across the ecosystem for a wide and quick uptake,” he said.
