Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to use blockchain for curbing the menace of fraudulent calls and SMSes.
The authority issued new daft norms to make sure that the telemarketing calls and SMSes are sent only to those who have subscribed for it.
“Blockchain will ensure two things — non- repudiative and confidentiality. Only those authorised to access details will be able to access subscriber details and only when they need to deliver service… Trai will become first organisation to implement this kind of regulation,” said RS Sharma, Chairman,TRAI.
TRAI will be opening the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2018 draft on June 11 for public comment. This new tech-driven mechanism will record all communication between the subscribers and callers, and capture customer’s consent pertaining to telemarketing agencies.
