Canara Bank launches UPI Interoperable Digital Rupee mobile application as a part of the RBIs Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot project.

Canara Bank is the first public and private sector bank to provide this capability in its CBDC mobile app, dubbed the “Canara Digital Rupee app.”

Customers will be able to scan merchant UPI QR codes using the Canara Digital Rupee app and make digital currency payments with the release of this unique feature. Furthermore, this functionality enables merchants to take digital currency payments in addition to UPI-based payments utilising their existing UPI QR codes without the need for a new onboarding process for CBDC.

According to K Satyanarayana Raju, Managing Director and CEO of Canara Bank, the launch of the Canara Bank Digital Rupee mobile application with UPI Interoperability is a game changer in the digitalization of the Indian economy. He expressed satisfaction in the app’s introduction, which will allow customers to experience the benefits of rapid and secure transactions using the RBI’s digital money.

Customers may now simply deal in digital currency with the Canara Bank Digital Rupee mobile application, which is currently accessible for both Android and iOS users. According to RBI laws, digital currency is legal cash, therefore the launch of this app is a big step towards the use of digital currency in India.

Canara Bank Digital Rupee Mobile app was created in accordance with RBI rules and is powered by modern block chain technology to ensure great security and efficiency. The software uses multi-factor authentication and encryption to safeguard transactions and protect user data.

The service is now being given on a trial basis to bank customers and merchants in 26 locations across India. All whitelisted clients in these 26 cities can access the Canara Bank Digital Rupee app. If a customer is not whitelisted, they will be requested to seek whitelisting during app installation. Within 24 hours, the customer will receive a mail from the bank requesting whitelisting, after which they will be able to install the app.
