In a bid to facilitate better offline verification of an individual, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now introduced digitally-signed QR code for E-Aadhaar that will also contain photograph of the Aadhaar holder. This will be an additional detail along with the already existing demographic details.
A QR code is a barcode label that carries machine-readable information. E-Aadhaar on the other is the electronic version of Adhaar that can be downloaded from UIDAI’s website.
However, to ensure that a person is a bona fide owner of the Aadhaar card, there has to be a manual check of photo with the individual’s face verification or agency specific authentication process.
E-Aadhaar QR Code reader software prescribed will be available on the nodal body’s website from 27 March 2018.
