Former Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI) Arundhati Bhattacharya is appointed as the Chairman of SWIFT India Domestic Services, the local unit of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) global, said an official communique of SWIFT India.
SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) global facilitates international payments functions for banks.
Bhattacharya was associated with SBI for nearly four decades. At SWIF India, she would succeed MV Nair. Nair retires from SWIFT India after completion of five years of his tenure as the Chairman.
Nair has played a significant role in the formation of the joint venture in SWIFT. Through meaningful engagement, he had helped in bringing the financial community closer to SWIFT India. He helped in developing the trade digitisation agenda that will provide significant benefits to the community.
Bhattacharya’s appointment is planned strategically to support the developments in financial technology space and help the organisation in dealing with the challenges associated with it.
“The venture has a huge potential to contribute significantly to the financial community in many domains,” said Bhattacharya.
